  • built to gather Arctic specimens, sailed around Cape Horn during her first trip to (unsuccessfully) hunt a bowhead whale
  • sold to the San Francisco Bar Pilot's Association, de-rigged and converted to a work boat in 1914, in World War II used by the Coast Guard guarding the bay
  • after 38 years as a work boat she was decommissioned and sold in 1952, layed up on the beach for the next years near Sausalito
  • 1960 brought to Seattle, many changing owners
  • foundation of the Youth Adventures, Inc. and use of the ship as sail training vessel
  • 1974 restored to nearly all her original lines
  • since 1988 she served as a floating classroom for the environmental education leadership program Sound Experience, the new owner provides programs March through October, public day sails, week long trips and continue the work of historic preservation and restoration
