  • built in 1976 to honor a vessel that played a key role in the fight for American independance, the original ship, a cargo-carrying ship called "Katy", was one of the first vessels commissioned by the Rhode Island Navy to protect other vessels against the British.
  • completed in October 1976, participated in some of the events and Bicentennial celebrations taking place over the entire year.
  • sailed charter trips and educational voyages then but the operator couldn't raise enough money to maintain the ship, served as a symbol of the city Providence then and was used to take high school students on short sailing ventures around Providence Harbor.
  • taken over by the newly founded Providence Maritime Heritage Foundation, sail training and participation in tall-ship events, in 2004 used in the second and third movies of the "Pirates of the Caribbean".
  • 2005 the Foundation ran into financial difficulties.
  • about 2007 hauled ashore and un-rigged, laid up for sale, the ship slowly fell into disrepair.
  • 2011 sold to the charter-boat captain Thorpe Leeson, used for charter sails out of Newport for about four years.
  • in February 2015 heavyly damaged at the dry dock in the Newport shipyard by a storm, was for sale then.
  • 2017 purchased by the Tall Ship Providence Foundation to restore the ship to its previous glory and using it as the centerpiece of the new maritime museum in Alexandria, Virginia.
  • 2-years restoration work under the guidance of master shipwright Leon Poindexter, restored to its original appearance as a sloop of the Continental Navy, moved to Old Town Alexandria in 2019, completion of the restoration work.
  • opened to the public in Spring 2020 for short tours and later for cruises on the Potomac and private charter sails.
