  • in the end of the 1990s the British STA decided to build two new replacement vessels for their topsail schooners "Sir Winston Churchill" and "Malcolm Miller", one of these two new brigs is the "Stavros S Niarchos", the Stavros S. Niarchos Foundation has made a substantial donation to the STA towards the completion of the two new brigs
  • hull was built at the Abeking & Rasmussen shipyard, came to Germany (Bremen, Rostock) but before her completion as a sailing ship it was sold to Appledore and was reconstructed and rigged
  • maiden voyage around Great Britain in March 2,000
