  • replica of a 1770's topsail schooner used in the American Revolutionary War, the slave trade and the war of 1812.
  • built by one man (Mr. Dennis Holland) in his front yard from plans purchased from the Smithsonian Institute, keel laid in 1970, launched 13 years later, the ship has got many beautiful details usually not found in replica ships.
  • sails approx. 180 days per year with school children learning marine science and tall-ship sailing, the remainder of the year she is busy sailing on day overnight, multi day voyages to nearby islands off the coast of Southern California.
  • after chartering the ship for many years the Ocean Institut, City of Dana Point, purchases her in 2001, renamed the "Spirit of Dana Point", further used for educational trips as part of the programmes of the new owner.
