  • she is one of the oldest sailing vessels in continuous service of the United States and a National Historic Landmark.
  • built in 1871 at the building place of Bedel in Glenwood near New York, designed for the supply and trade in the smaller ports on the American Atlantic coast.
  • owner Capt. B. Hallock from East Setaucket next to New York operated the ship between 1892-1930, transport of timber, coal, stones, oysters and salted fish between port from South Street to Newport, Rhode Island.
  • participation in the inaugural ceremony of the Statue of Liberty on October 28, 1886 and in 1899 participation in the parade of ships to honour admiral Dewey, who defeated the Spanish fleet in Philipinen waters.
  • in 1930 property of B. Eaton for some month, sold to Capt. F. Wood, who skippered the "Stephen Taber" until the 2nd World War as a freighter.
  • after that owned by H. and M. Hawkinses for 11 years, later Capt. J. Sharp followed by Capt. O. Young, both from Camden at the American Aest coast became the owner.
  • 1979 purchased by K. and E. Barnes, after refitting the ship entered the charter business in 1983, as cook Ellen Barnes published the cookbook "The Taste of Tabor".
  • 1989 purchased by new owners from Rockland.
  • based in Rockland the ship sails with passengers on whale and seal watching trips, voyages take about a week.
