  • built on order of the East India Company in Sulkeali, a suburb of Calcutta, before she was completed she was sold to Sir George Hodgkinson from Cornhill, London
  • first voyage with tea as the load from Calcutta to London, she was sold here to the shipowner Duncan Dunbar
  • chartered by the English government, used to transport troops to the Black Sea for the siege of Sewastopol in the Crimean War
  • following she made three voyages to East India
  • chartered by the English government again to transport political prisoners to Western Australia
  • subsequently she was used in the Great Indian Rebellion (1856-58) for shipping troops
  • since 1861 she has been used for civil purposes, she transported food from Bangkok for the fight against the hunger in Northwest India
  • purchase by the shipowners Gellatly & Co. from London in 1862 after the old owner died, she has been used as a tea sailing vessel for many years then
  • between 1873 and 1880 chartered by the shipowners Shaw Savill Lines, "Edwin Fox" carried emigrants from England, Scotland and Ireland to New Zealand, altogether she made four voyages to Dundein, Wellington, Nelson and Littleton (Christchurch)
  • 1878 converted from a fully-rigged ship to a bark
  • 1883-85 rebuilt and converted to a refrigeration ship in London, she has been used as a stationary refrigeration ship in New Zealand for many years, 1897 towed to Picton, the removal of her rigging began
  • since about 1900 until 1950 used as a cool hulk in Picton
  • since 1964 there are plans to save the ship and restore her as one of the last East Indiamen and emigrant vessel, foundation of the "Edwin Fox Restoration Society", who bought the ship in 1965, after long years raising the funds a dry dock was installed in 1999 for the preservation of the ship and subsequently restore the hull, further money is needed to successfully save the vessel
  • she is christened the Edwin Fox for a well-known Quaker from Southampton
