  • built as a training ship for the Kristiansand navigation school, the building costs were provided by the shipowner A.O.T. Skjelbred on the condition that the ship become an authentic square-rigger without an auxiliary engine, (the ship was re-equipped with an engine in 1958).
  • operated by the "Sørlandets Seilende Skoleskibs Institution", an association to educate and train seamen for Norway.
  • 1933 she visited the World Exhibition in Chikago/USA, sailing through the St. Lawrence River and Great Lakes, she sailed sailtraining voyages until the war.
  • in WWII used by the Norwegian Navy, in Horten she was confiscated by the Germans, used in Kirkenes as a millitary prision, she sank due to a bomb splinter, salvaged by the Germans, repaired and used as a depot for submarines in Kristianssand, removal of her rigging, a new deckhouse was built.
  • after the war she was immediately restored and used again as a training ship for the Sørlandets Seilende Skoleskibs.
  • sailed sucessfully in many Tall Ships Races in the 1960s.
  • 1974 temporary decommissioned from active services, bought by the Norwegian shipowner Staubo, registered in Arendal, laid up for 3 years, deteriorated considerably in these years.
  • sold to a son of A.O.T. Skjelbred in 1977, she was given to the town Kristiansand then, has been thoroughly overhauled with funds from the city of Kristiansand and a lot of volunteers.
  • has been available to all people interested in sailing since 1980-81, also charter trips possible during the Norway holidays starting from Kristianssand, owned and operated by the non-profit foundation "Stiftelsen Fullriggeren Sørlandet", partly funded by the Norwegian Department of Culture.
  • 1981 she crossed the Atlantic four times, in addition engaged in a film shoot in New York and performed several cruises between Bermuda and Boston, 2-week North Sea cruises in the following years.
  • 1986 crossing of the Atlantic to take part in the celebrations on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty in New York.
  • in summers of 1986-88 3-week sailtraining courses with cadets of the Royal Norwegian Navy, until 1997 she worked closely in co-operation with the Royal Norwegian Navy, Norwegian Shipowners Association and the local public Employment Office doing six-week courses in sailing and general seamanship.
  • spent the winter of 1995/96 in the Caribbean.
  • partricipated the Sail Bremerhaven 2000.
  • 2010-11 chartered by the West Island College International - Class Afloat, voyage Kristiansand calling St.Malo into the Mediterranean, to North and Western Africa, Cap Verde, Trinidad in the Carribean, Columbia, cuba, Haiti, Hamilton (Bermuda), La Coruna in Portugal, Belgium, Sweden, Lübeck in Germany and back to Kristiansand.
  • participation in the Tall Ships CHALLENGE Great Lakes 2013, visits in many ports of the United States and Canada.
  • named the "Sørlandet" for a region of Norway.
