• regarded as the only four-masted fully rigged ship of the great sailing era and the only remaining sail-driven oil tanker.
• she was a British general cargo vessel from 1878 to 1898 usually sailing between England and India.
• between 1898 and 1901 she underwent basic modification when she was sold to American owners, entry into service as a Hawaiian transpacific passenger and freight-carrying vessel, in 1898 she was rigged as a 4-masted bark and sailed as a freighter on the West coast of the USA until 1907.
• the ship was bought by the Associated Oil Company in 1907 and converted into a sailing oil tanker; several changes of the owner, voyages between America and Denmark, after 1922 she was used for 37 years as a floating oil store and petrol depot in Alaska, her rigging was removed.
• 1959-63 she was owned by William W. Mitchell from Ketchikan, US; laid down in Seattle
• 1963 the people of Hawaii collected about $25,000 dollars to prevent the ship from being sunk as a breakwater; taken under tow bound for Honolulu; restoration to a sailing ship, but the refitting and rigging were repeatedly delayed by adverse conditions, such as a hurricane.
• given to the Bishop Museum and opened to the public in 1968, restoration was finally completed in August 1983 and she has been birthed since then at pier 7 of the famous Maritime Center in Honolulu.
• U.S. National Historic Landmark since 1989.
• caused by lack of maintainance and financial support the ship got in poor condition, 2008 announcment by the Bishop Museum to sink the ship as a breakwater if any support would fail.
• foundadion of the non-profit group "Friends of Falls of Clyde" who took over the ship and its maintainance.
