  • first drawings in 1916, keel laid in spring 1917 at the shipyard Appelo, Zwartsluis, NL, on order of the shipbuilder L. Mulder from Martenshoek, in summer 1917 before her completion the hull was sold to the shipping company H.A.A.S. from Rotterdam, launched in November 1917, completion and delivery 1918.
  • 1918-21 used as a Dutch freighter under sail, ship's captain was J. van der Lip, transport of stones clay, timber, potatoes and straw.
  • laid up in Rotterdam in spring of 1921, sold to captain Warnder Kramer from Groningen in September 1921, from this time on she sailed along the European coasts, in the Mediterranean and coastal waters of Africa.
  • 1930 fitted with a new engine, siplification of her rig, 1932-34 the rig was steady reduced further, removal of the mizzen mast and installation of a bridge and rudder house.
  • 1936 handing over of the ship to the owner's son Jan Kramer.
  • in September 1936 collision with the steam trawler SN14 "Ben Hope".
  • in August 1938 handed over to Wardner Kramer Jr.
  • sold to the Danish shipping company Fuglen from Æroskøbing in May 1939, new name became "Fuglen II", captain Ph. Winther stocked "Oosterschelde" until 1940, when E. Kristensen became the new captain.
  • 1942 fitted with a new 119 hp engine.
  • 1943 damaged by a mine, brought to Skagen and then to Svendborg, where she was repaired between April and August.
  • 1949-50 J.A. Hentze became the ship's captain.
  • 1950 installation of a new 240 hp engine.
  • 1952 collision with the motor vessel "Stentor" and the motor sailing ship "Christa", A.K. Hansen became the new captain.
  • in March 1954 sold to captain Sam Pettersson from Skärhamn, SWE, under Swedish flag and the new name "Sylvan" she was used in the Baltic region mainly, in the following years her conversion to a motor freighter was continued
  • 1963 sold to captain Denis Inberg from Skärhamn.
  • 1981 installation of a new 360 hp main engine.
  • in June 1987 sold to "Tallship Travel B.V." from Nijmegen, NL, laid up in Stavoren and later in Werkendam.
  • in July 1988 sold to captain Dick van Adel from Rotterdam, renamed the "Oosterschelde", foundation of the "Het Rotterdamse Zeilschip" to collect money for a restoration of the ship.
  • 1990 transferred to the B.V. Reederij Oosterschelde of Rotterdam, start of a near genuine restoration with attention of modern standards for safety in cooperation with former ship masters and several maritime museums, overhaul of the hull at the shipyard Blue Wave in Leeuwarden, re-rigged and equipped in Rotterdam, re-commissioned by her Highness Princess Margriet in August 1992.
  • 1994 voyage to the Svalbard archipelago, NOR, in the Arctic Ocean.
  • August 1996 to April 1998 circumnavigation of the globe under the ship masters Dick van Andel, Gerben Nab and Pieter Brantjes; her course went on 30 000 sm via Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand, rounded the Cape Horn and she visited the Antarctic
  • participation in many sailing events, i.e. Sail Bremerhaven 1995, Sail Osaka 1997, Delfsail 1998, 1999/2000 participation in gatherings of tall-ships on the occasion of the transatlantic regatta 2000, cruising the caribbean and further visits of the Antarctic.
  • Nov 2012 begin of a circumnavigation together with "Tecla" and "Europa" rounding Cape Hope, Cape Leeuwin and Cape Horn, participation in sailing events and Tall Ships Races held in Australia.
  • "Oosterschelde" is regarded as one of the last living examples of the fleet of 3-masted topsail schooners which sailed under the Dutch flag at the turn of the century. She offers sailing opportunities or accomodation for interested people and companies and is one ambassador of the town Rotterdam.
  • name "Oosterschelde" is derived from the river Schelde, which is devided in a eastern part (ooster) and a western part in the area of the Netherlands.
