Last update: 30 Sep 2001
- "Svanen" was built in Härnösand as passenger steamer in 1906 run between Umeå and Holmsund on the mouth of the river
- 1927 converted to a tug
- after that she used the name "Uman" for some time
- 1963 brought to Stockholm for the purpose of modernization, this intention failed, so she was shut down until 1976
- 1976 the empty hull without deck was bought by owner Carl Ring, 3 years for conversion to a staysail schooner, renamed the "Svanen", since then she is regarded a fast sailing ship, even with slight wind and easy handability of the sails
- first voyage as a sailing ship started in 1980 and was planned to last about a few month, participation in the Tallships Race 1980, 4 years sailing in the caribbean and waters around Venezuela, further 4 years she spent in the USA (3 years New York based at Long Island, 1 year based in Newport, Rhode Island), return to Sweden after 8 years
- today she is registered in Stockholm/SWE, homeported in Saltsjöbaden, used for daytips and longer charter trips along the Swedish coast and islands for firms and private groups
