Kuiper-Brandarisrace 2013

Brandaris is the name of the lighthouse on the Dutch island Terschelling. It is the oldest lighthouse of The Netherlands and his name was given to a regatta for flat-bottom sailing ships. The Kuiper-Brandarisrace takes place between Harlingen and Western-Terschelling each year in October. Because of the dimensions of the habour of the island there is a maximum of 80 sailing ships which can participate. The sailing ships are classified for big and small klippers, tjalks, Aaks and Skûtsjes as well as botter, cutter and other sailing ships.

I participated in this regatta on board of the "Passaat". She is a fast Dutch sailing klipper operated by the ZonneWind Zeilreizen agency. Sailing on board was a sustainable experience and was a bargain to see some of the Dutch traditional sailing ships of this region. I have taken photos and added the klippers, tjalks and Skûtsjes to this encyclopedia. I have prepared a video about the Kuiper-Brandarisrace 2013. Please use the controls on the bottom panel after starting the video to see it in full screen. I look forward to your comments and hope you enjoy.
